HR Manager

Position Title: Human Resources Manager

Location: Canada (head office / retail locations) — specify city / province if relevant

Reports To: General Manager / COO / Head of Operations

Position Summary:

The HR Manager will serve as a strategic partner to leadership and operational teams at SellPhone Lab. You will oversee all HR functions — recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, compliance, and training — and help shape a positive, high-performance culture that supports business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Staffing

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for corporate, retail, and technical staff.
  • Forecast hiring needs, especially during peak periods (e.g., new product launches).
  • Develop job descriptions, post roles, screen candidates, coordinate interviews, and manage offer negotiations.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of qualified talent (technicians, store staff, support functions).

Onboarding & Training

  • Design and implement a structured onboarding program for new hires (both retail and technical).
  • Coordinate and deliver training programs: technical training, sales/customer service training, compliance, and professional development.
  • Ensure all employees complete required certifications, safety training, and compliance training.

Performance Management

  • Develop and maintain performance evaluation systems (e.g., annual reviews, KPIs).
  • Coach managers on performance management, feedback, and development planning.
  • Facilitate performance improvement plans and follow-up.

Employee Relations

  • Act as a point of contact for employee issues, grievances, and conflict resolution.
  • Conduct investigations when needed (e.g., misconduct, performance concerns).
  • Foster a positive workplace culture; drive engagement initiatives (team building, recognition programs).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Oversee compensation strategy (salaries, bonuses, incentives) aligned to business goals.
  • Manage benefits programs (health, dental, paid time off, perks).
  • Benchmark compensation to industry standards.

HR Policies & Compliance

  • Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and the employee handbook.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian labour laws (provincial and federal), health & safety regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Partner with legal or external counsel when necessary.

HR Data & Systems

  • Maintain HR information systems / databases (employee records, HRIS).
  • Generate HR metrics and reports (turnover, hiring, retention, engagement).
  • Use data to drive improvements in HR practices.

Organizational Development

  • Support leadership in executing HR strategy aligned to business growth.
  • Assist with change management initiatives.
  • Develop succession plans for key roles (store managers, lead technicians, etc.).

Health & Safety

  • Oversee workplace safety compliance, especially in technical/repair settings.
  • Coordinate safety training and incident management with operations teams.

Employee Engagement & Retention

  • Run engagement surveys and feedback programs.
  • Initiate recognition programs and career development opportunities.
  • Implement retention strategies for key employees.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
  • HR certifications (CPHR, CHRL, SHRM) preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience; retail/e-commerce experience is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian labour laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience using HR metrics.
  • High integrity and discretion handling confidential information.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
